Summer 2 – Home Learning

Next week, we would have sent home the home learning packs usually received by the children in advance of their half-term’s learning. Therefore, please see the attached pdf versions of the home learning booklets for Summer 2, as well as answers to all of the maths problems. Please note that you will have seen some of the home learning sheets before. Given the lock-down situation we have found ourselves in, the Year 1 team have decided to use Summer 2 as a time to revise and recap some of the key skills that the children have learnt over the year, in order to best prepare the children, for Year 2.

As usual, we would love to see the children’s completed learning, so please continue to send photos and photocopies of the children’s work, to Mrs Stock.

Rights Respecting

Foundation Subject Learning – R.E.

Ramadan and Eid

Link to United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child:

UNCRC: Article 14 (freedom of thought, belief and religion) Every child has the right to think and believe what they choose and also to practise their religion, as long as they are not stopping other people from enjoying their rights. Governments must respect the rights and responsibilities of parents to guide their child as they grow up.

This year, the Islamic holy month of Ramadan began on Thursday 23rd April and ends on Saturday 23rd May. Please copy and paste the link below to view a range of short clips about Ramadan.

Ramadan lasts for 30 days and finishes with a celebration called Eid Al Fitr. This year, Eid Al Fitr will begin on the evening of Saturday 23rd May and end on the evening of Sunday 24th May.

Please share the ‘All About Ramadan and Eid’ slides with your child:

To celebrate Eid, Muslim families enjoy preparing special foods to share with their loved ones. Can you follow the ‘Eid Biscuit’ recipe to bake some biscuits for Eid. If you do not have any shape cutters, you may like to carve a crescent moon shape and stars using a knife. Please ask a grown up to help you.

Can you remember what may be given to family and friends when celebrating Eid? (Greetings cards).

  • Why else might you send a card?
  • Can you talk about a card that you have given or received to mark a special event?

Can you design your own greetings card?

Online Phonics Lessons for Letters and Sounds

We are pleased to announce, from Monday 27 April, online phonics lessons are available from this link: Letters and Sounds for home and school.

Written and presented by phonics experts and funded by the Department for Education, the online lessons are designed to cover new phonics teaching that children would have received over the summer term had they been in school. This resource is for use by teachers and parents who will find planning and teaching phonics challenging when schools are closed due to Covid-19. A guidance film for parents to explain the basics of Phonics and how parents can support their child is also available.

A new lesson will be uploaded Monday to Friday at the times below during the summer term. *After upload, each lesson will then be available to watch throughout the summer term.

Sutton School’s Work Assemblies

Sutton Schoolswork are a Christian charity who deliver assemblies at our school each term. Their assemblies explore Christianity and help children to develop spiritually, morally and socially. Due to current circumstances, they are taking some of their services online, starting with assemblies. The assemblies are similar to what the children would receive at school except they can be found as short videos. Each week a new assembly will be uploaded and will include a bible story, a thought about what it means for Christians, questions and an activity based around the theme.

If you would like to watch their weekly assembly, please copy and paste the link, which will take you to their YouTube page. Each week, a new assembly will be uploaded as ‘Assemblies Online’.
